What does House of Light provide?
Here at House of Light we can support you in many ways depending on what you feel you need.
Our fantastic team of therapists can help if you are struggling with your mental health with regular face to face sessions at our offices in Hull or Anlaby. We also offer counselling via telephone or online in the comfort of your own home.
We run a support group for parents struggling in the postnatal period. Our support group can connect you with other parents who may be struggling in a similar way. It is amazing what a ‘me too’ chat can do to alleviate isolation.
We also have a freephone helpline, this is not a crisis line but if you just feel you need a one-off chat if you’re having a bad day, we can refer you to one of our experienced therapists for an informal chat the same day.
What is counselling?
Counselling is delivered one to one either face to face, over the telephone or online. It provides you with a safe, non-judgemental confidential space to explore what you are feeling. We understand that it can be difficult to talk about your emotions, however, we are here to help you clarify your feelings and help you consider any changes you may want to make in your life.
There are a vast range of reasons you may wish to access counselling, it can be something specific or it may just be that things just do not feel quite right. We at House of Light are here to help.
How can I access your service for help?
Please call us on 01482 580499 or email [email protected]. We will discuss together what may be the best option for you at this time and help you through the process of accessing that help.
What does ‘perinatal’ mean?
Perinatal means a period of time before and after birth. We use it to encompass both antenatal and postnatal issues.
What do I need to do if I decide I would like some counselling?
You can complete our referral form (link) and we will call you back to discuss the support available to you, or you can call us on 01482 580499 or email [email protected] with a brief outline of what you feel you are struggling with. We will call or email you back to discuss further.
What do I do if I can’t make my appointment?
If you are already in treatment with House of Light and you cannot make your scheduled appointment, please call us on 01482 580499 to inform us and rearrange your session. We ask that if possible, you give 24hrs notice in order to not lose that session.
What if I want to change the Therapist I am working with?
It is important that you feel comfortable with the Therapist you are working with and there may be many reasons why it might not feel like a ‘good fit’ for you. This is something that sometimes happens, and you can inform your therapist or if you don’t feel comfortable doing this, you can call our Admin on 01482 580499 and we will do our best to put you with the right person.
How often would my therapy sessions be?
Usually, therapy begins with weekly sessions but depending on your needs or your availability, this can be changed to fortnightly or even monthly sessions. The regularity of your sessions is always something your therapist will discuss with you in session.
Could I bring my baby with me?
The short answer is yes. It is not ideal to attend a therapy session with your baby however, we understand that not everyone has the support network available to help with childcare. We would rather you access some help than struggle alone.
We would encourage you to attend your sessions alone, creating a space for just you. This way you will be able to maximise the impact of your therapy.
Is everything I discuss confidential?
Everything you discuss with your therapist or anyone at House of Light is 100% confidential unless we have any concerns with your safety or the safety others. If we do have any concerns, we would always discuss this with you if possible.
Is it possible for me to bring someone with me for support?
If you need someone to support you with any physical difficulties or you have a registered carer, then they may accompany you to your appointments. However, we recommend that within your therapy session, it is better and leads to more positive outcomes if your work with your therapist is one-to-one.
Does your building have disability access?
The K2 Building has access for wheelchairs and people with any mobility issues. There is a platform lift in reception and the building meets the requirements of the Wheelchair Access Regulations UK.
Can I access support at House of Light if my first language is not English?
It is possible to have an interpreter with you in therapy sessions and this is something that can be arranged if needed. If you have any language requirements, we will do our best to accommodate this.
